Behavior Policy or Afterschool Policy

The Lyme Library welcomes people of all ages.  Its mission is to encourage learning, curiosity and the sharing of ideas. To insure that all patrons can enjoy its resources and its environment, the library staff and trustees have established the following rules for unaccompanied children who use the library:

  • Consideration for others requires moderate voices and respectful behavior inside the library.
  • All backpacks, bags and coats should be put on the bench in the side entry hall or under a table.
  • Children in elementary school may use the computers in the children's area only. If a library staff member or volunteer has to correct a child's behavior more than once in a day, that child will be asked to leave for the remainder of the day.
  • Children may call a parent and wait for transportation in the library lobby or outside if necessary.
  •  The library staff members and volunteers do not assume the role of parents.  They are not responsible for activities of patrons, including children, except when their behavior interferes with the library≠s mission and the safety and comfort of its users.
